There is significant and substantial rust on the frame of this vehicle. there is more than one hole eaten completely through the frame, along with terrible surface rust that has eaten the frame so thin that any light tap creates a hole completely through. this has also rusted through the fuel tank straps, and other various suspension points. the service technician at toyota told me the vehicle is not recommended to stay on the road, and did not want to service the timing belt due to fear that other components would easily snap off because of the amount of rust all over the entire frame. this vehicle is very similar to my 2010 toyota tacoma, and shares several related parts and pieces. i am fully aware of the recall for frame rust on the tacomas, and fortunately my truck was not damaged. this vehicle is too much like the tacoma to not have the same consideration of having the same issues. no vehicle, much less a vehicle only 14 years old should have this bad of an issue, and it is a widely known problem in the toyota enthusiasts community. this is a newer vehicle for my wife, and now ...
Took 2003 4runner to dealer for alignment. was informed that frame has rusted to point of making car unsafe to drive. no other original components have rust.
I bought my 4runner new and have taken meticulous care of it via the dealership i bought it from, doing an oil change every 5000 miles. now they tell me the truck should not be driven since the frame has rusted through in the rear. the trucks maintenance was done at prestige toyota mahesh nj 201-669-4525 service manager is robert j teunisen
My vehicle was in motion, and the engine shut off. i was able to restart the vehicle several times, but it would only continue running for 5 to 60 seconds. after about 30 minutes the vehicle started and drove to my destination (home). the problem persisted for 3 days, with only one successful short drive amidst several stalls and restarts. each time the vehicle started, but did not run for long before dying. i towed it to my local toyota dealership 9 days ago and they were not able to find any issue... the problem seems to have fixed itself, at least for now. however, today the news reported a recall for newer model 4 runners that have a problem with the fuel pump causing the vehicle to stall while driving, posing a serious risk. i believe this may be the same issue that is affecting my 2013 4 runner.
The rear frame broke and the shock tower broke off due to rust. i was driving down the highway and a loud bang when it let go tearing off the exhaust l.
I just purchased a 2001 toyota 4runner. all seemed fine .but when i went to get it inspected they would not pass starting it had frame rust through. i called toyota customer service who said and i also read online that thousands of toyota trucks have a frame recall but mine does not. and they are not willing to do anything. others had the frame replaced, repaired or bought back. hopefully you can help me.
Frame is rusted excessively. garage kept every winter. my rear driver side sway bar has completely rusted off the frame.
By design, which toyota motor sales usa inc. acknowledges, the 2019 4runner sr5 windshield and front window defrost functions with external air only, and will not function with recirculated vehicle cabin air. this exposes vehicle occupants to potentially hazardous external air conditions during winter driving. i've personally been exposed to this health hazard on multiple occasions while operating the 4runner windshield defrost hvac in inclement weather: in heavy freeway traffic and exposed to vehicle exhaust-laden external air, and in mountain winter driving and exposed to external diesel exhaust from snow removal vehicles. as an asthma sufferer such exposure during normal operation of the vehicle is a health risk. on at least one occasion i've experienced significant respiratory distress due to this 2019 toyota 4runner design defect. i'm concerned about continued exposure and related health hazards for me and other vehicle occupants while operating a integral vehicle feature, one that is necessary for safe driving during inclement weather conditions.
