We have classified the 2 complaints from 2004 Toyota 4Runner about TIRES into the following categories.
Recently became the owner of 04 4runner with what we thought at first glance were new tires. after poor driving conditions and checking the tires we found both front tires with tread chunking off in medium pieces and are unsafe. both rear tires are fine. we live on a pretty small island where daily drives are at most probably 50 miles max if that. these tires are complete crap and need to be recalled before someone gets hurt. i will never run a michelin tire again due to this. obviously the company cares more about profit than lives. p165 70r17 latitute tour dot b7kp 004x 1014

Toyota 4runner, 2004, v6-sport edition during warranty period 2009 (purchased extended warranty), low tire pressure sensor light came on, repaired by toyota dealership, after a year light returned. check all tires at recommended pressure, light remains on. had vehicle serviced for recall on floor mat issue on may 8, 2011 and asked tech to check on low tire pressure warning light, was told that all tires are properly inflated; however, light would not go away and a diagnostic check and cost is $90. personally, i feel previous problem was never resolved...recurring issue. *tr

Vibration is felt in steering wheel at highway speeds (55 mph or higher). this is especially present when steering wheel is turned slightly to the right. have had tires rebalanced with no change in vibration. problem has been with vehicle since purchase. tire replacement and rotation does not correct vibration. *cn
Relates to a 2004 toyota 4runner. the tire pressure sensor system malfunctions and the light blinks indicating low pressure in the tires (blinking of the light per the provided manual is indicative of low pressure in tires). toyota and its dealers refuse to acknowledge the issue and unable to offer a fix. i have had my vehicle in the dealer shop now twice and involved regional toyota technical support with no resolution. each time the sensor is reset, the light triggers on after a few days. likely a failure of the either the tire sensor or the electronic control module. by admission of the dealer multiple vehicles have similar problems. the failure of the tire pressure sensor system tends to occur each time after driving conditions that involve higher (legal) speeds and after continuous driving for more than 30 minutes on highways. *nm
Low tire pressure indicator light comes on and blinks after vehicle has been travelling at highway speeds for extended periods of time. usually occurs after driving for an hour or more. dealer reports that no tire problems found and resets indicator. indicator must be reset by dealer, or it will continue its annoying blinking.*ak
